was reading through an interesting discussion on naach gaana abt srk and aamir..

Mar 6th, 2010 | Posted by screaming skull

one good point was made..

that aamir has chosen versatile  scripts but srk has been played more diverse characters…for example srk is typecasted as a romantic hero..just take a look at this..in this romance genre srk has played a range of roles from a collegian to a drunkard to an old man, ghost, husband, geek, obsessive lover, army man, teacher, autistic,

aamir for sure has been seen in extremely hatke scripts…but in most of them his role wasnt alarmingly challenging  and his part wasnt as  hatke as the script..

i yet havent come to a conclusion regarding this whole debate..but its definitely worth giving a thought..

well..just examine the character or aamir from 2000 onwards..smart young man from lagaan, ofcourse villager, bt that doesnt change his basic character sketch..smart cool boy in dch, again smart cool boy in rdb..smart cool guide/terrorist in fanaa, smart cool youg teacher in tzp, smart cool industrialist/changed into revenge seeker in ghajiji..again smart cool dude in 3idiots..

    cmon..whers that much change..

well, both of them have a completely different outlook of how cinema should be but would say both are excellent actors.

having a discussion over who’s better in what way can result in prolonged viewes and opinions, but there are few basic things to be understood here.

where aamir has an edge over srk these is in selection of scripts: they may not be flawless storylines but have resulted in being extremely liked by the viewers, commercially or critically. i didnt believe fanaa, 3 idiots & ghajini were quality cinema, but delievered great hits for aamir. and thats been happening film after film for aamir.
SRK has faltered in making MNIK a universally liked film. it has worked to some extent but not one was expecting when we have SRK and Kajol together in a film directed by one of the most successful directors of his generation. OSO, Chak de and RNBDJ were big hits but two of them didnt earn much goodwill for SRK as much as what aamir’s recent films have done for him.

where SRK has an advantage is his acting has surely evolved over the years , in a good way. and in many of his films, despite the shortcomings of the script, he has managed to rise above the storyline and save his films.. something which I havent seen aamir doing much. he is of course a competent actor but not great as some of the pseudo intellectuals say. he is like one of the good things in the film, rather than being the best thing in the film. whereas SRK can be considered the best thing in RNBDJ and MNIK
